APA is proud to announce our annual international photographic workshop in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Having operated for 5 years alongside our partner organisation Fox Darkroom, the annual Cambodia tour is run by the Australian Photography Awards co-founders Tom Goldner & Harriet Tarbuck. Tom & Harriet have 25 years of industry experience spanning art, documentary, portraiture, education, exhibition development and commercial projects.

“We are offering a wealth of experience to a small group of enthusiastic individuals seeking to get off the beaten track and explore a country beyond tourist attractions. Expect to travel with an open heart, open mind and go out of your way to seek authentic experiences with genuine people”.

Participants in 2021 can expect one-on-one guidance while working in the field, photographing some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and dynamic cultures.

The course consists of personalised assignment-based learning, group assignments and in-depth conversations designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of your photography practice and ambitions and get you understanding and shooting to brief.

This program is suitable for photographers of all skill levels, regardless of whether you are just beginning your photographic journey or are a seasoned professional. Our team of skilled and experienced program operators will tailor each assignment individually, ensuring that all participants leave the experience with new friends and a regenerated passion for image making.

Our aim is for you to return with a greater sense of direction and with clear and decisive steps towards reaching your photographic goals. Expect to return with a strong series of images that you are truly proud of. Both film and/or digital media welcome.

Our Cambodian partners are a big part of what makes our workshops unique. Our guides are there to keep you safe, act as translators, provide local knowledge and access to communities and situations that would otherwise be closed to travellers. It is through this local collaboration that we also ensure an ethical and sustainable experience for all involved.

Our workshops are designed for adventurers. Expect to find yourself off-road and often on the back of a motorbike, boat and even the odd tractor. One evening is spent sleeping in hammocks in a remote village in the Cambodian countryside. After a long day of roughing it on the road, it’s nice to come back to the comfort of our base accommodation where you can expect air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, comfortable beds and even a pool where much of our debriefing takes place.

Cost: $3,950 AUD ($2,816 USD). Includes all workshop sessions, accommodation, internal transport and all meals. A non-refundable deposit of $650 AUD secures a place on the workshop; the remainder is payable no less than two months before the workshop starting date.

Please Note:  All participants are required to provide proof of medical/travel insurance.

COVID-19: While we have every intention to operate this tour in November of 2021, we also acknowledge that the possibility of international travel during this time is not being yet confirmed. If this tour is of interest, please don’t hesitate to open a dialogue with one of our team via the button below. We will always prioritise the safety of our participants first and foremost, and as such the viability of this tour is subject to assessment closer to the operation date.

It will be a fantastic adventure – it would be great to have you along!
